Clean Boot Startup to Windows 7/8/10 – Step by Step

Most of the time when installing or uninstalling software, drivers or Windows updates; you need to disable all the unnecessary services and need to start windows in clean boot mode for avoiding error messages and troubles. In this article, I will show you step by step guide to start Windows 7/8 and 10 in clean boot mode.

A clean boot is a procedure of disabling additional services and start windows using the minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

How to Perform Clean Boot?

In order to perform a clean boot, you must be logged in as administrator. Must remember that starting PC in clean boot means your PC will allow you to use only necessary functionality. This mode is used for installing drivers and software that conflict with other services. You must start your PC in normal mode after installing an application.

Windows 10 Clean Boot

Step 1: Go to Start Menu and search for msconfig. Select System Configuration from the search results.

Step 2: Click on Service Tab and check the Hide all Microsoft services check box. Next click Disable All button.

Step 3: Go to Startup Tab and click Open Task Manager link.

Step 4: Go to Startup Tab in the Task Manager and Disable all the Startup Item.

Step 5: Close the Task Manager and Click OK in System Configuration Dialog Box and then Restart your PC.
Windows 8, 8.1 Clean Boot
Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
Step 2: Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig

Step 3: Go to Service Tab and select Hide all Microsoft services check box. After that, click Disable All button.

Step 4: Go to Startup Tab and click Open Task Manager link.

Step 5: Go to Startup Tab in the task manager, select each item and click Disable.

Step 6: Close Task Manager and click OK to System Configuration Dialog box, and then restart your computer.

Clean Boot – Windows 7 and Vista
Step 1: Click Start and Type msconfig in the search box, and open msconfig.

Step 2: Go to General Tab, click Selective Startup option, and then click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

Step 3: Go to Service Tab and select Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable All button.

Step 4: Click OK and Restart PC.

What Next?

Windows 10/8/8.1

Step 1: Open System Configuration Dialog box by searching msconfig in startup search box.
Step 2: Go to General Tab and click the Normal Startup Option.
Step 3: Go to Service Tab and uncheck Hide All Microsoft services check box and, then click Enable All button.
Step 4: Click on Startup tab and click Open Task Manager link.
Step 5: In the Task Manager, enable all of your startup programs and click OK.
Step 6: Restart your PC.

Windows 7 and Vista

Step 1: Open msconfig
Step 2: Go to General Tab and click Normal Startup option and click OK.
Step 3: Restart your Computer.
