Fix Windows Update Component Manually

There are many ways to Fix Windows Update Components manually but I am listing here only 2 tested methods. Just select one of the given methods which suit your technical skills.

Method 1: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows Update Troubleshooter is inbuilt in Windows OS and you can start it using following steps.

1. Click Start Menu and Type Troubleshooting. Click on Troubleshooting and it will open a Troubleshooting window.

2. Here, select Fix Problems with Windows Update under System and Security.

3. It will open Windows Update Popup window. Click on Next.

4. It will start analyzing the problem. Click on Try troubleshooting as an administrator.

5. Wait till process finish. You will see a message that Windows Update components must be repaired – Fixed. Click close to finish this operation.

Method 2: Using Command Prompt

If Troubleshooter doesn’t work for you then you can fix windows update components using the command prompt.

1. Open a command prompt as administrator.

2. Now Paste the following command on it and press Enter

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

After successfully running all the commands try to update windows again. You will not get the update error 0x80080005.

Reason – Virus or Malware

The error 0x80080005 strongly indicates that there are some virus or malware issues in windows. You must start a deep scan of your whole PC using a licensed antivirus program.
